Egypt Creek Ranch

Does of Distinction

Kiko Does THat made an impact at ECR

Sunkist 113 in 2001 with her set of quads out of Goldmine II

Egypt Creek Ranch has been fortunate to have some great foundation does. Most of these does are deceased, but their genetics are still a big part of our breeding program today. We started with Gloria's mother, Sunkist 113. She was a Moneymaker daughter and our first 100% New Zealand doe. The next New Zealand does we purchased were two Klondike daughters: JTV Queen and JTV Nina (Rusty's mom). We purchased these three does in 1999.

When our friends Bill & Brenda Moore of BBM Kikos in Jasper, Ga., dispersed their herd several years ago, we brought our partnership does home to Mississippi. They include the BBM does listed here, plus Vanna's sister BBM Nicky, who had to be put down after a dog attack.

Both are Nick daughters. Vanna's mom is TAY W26 and Vicky's mom is TAY W27.

ECR M4 turned 8 on Feb. 21, 2008.

She delivered these twins two days later.

Here’s the kind of doe we like. ECR M4 was born in 2000, the smallest of a set of triplets. Her dam was JTV Queen and her sire was Goldmine II. She lived in the pasture her entire life and was never pampered. She was an easy keeper and rarely needed deworming. She consistently had two kids each spring, which she raised without assistance. As the demand for 100% New Zealand Kikos took off nearly a decade ago, we were eager to reproduce all the great traits that we had found in No. 4. We flushed ECR M4 in 2005 but didn’t have enough recip does, so we froze the embryos. We flushed her again in 2006. From the fresh and frozen embryos, we kidded out 23 kids in 2007. We flushed her in that awful heat in 2007 and had another nine embryo kids born in 2008. In addition, No. 4 had five kids born naturally during those three years. That was a total of 37 kids. We still have a couple No. 4 daughters here and several granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Looking back, I wish I had kept more offspring from No. 4 and all of these foundation does.
